MANILA – Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) is implementing improvements at LRT-1 PITX Station to reduce long queues, ease congestion and provide a smoother commuting experience.
In a statement Friday, October 9, LRMC President and CEO Enrico Benipayo said the enhancements are being carried out in coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA).
The improvements include installing additional ticket counters, relocating ticket-vending machines and reconfiguring turnstile gates to manage passenger movement more efficiently.
“Our commitment to our commuters goes beyond providing safe and reliable transport; it is about continuously elevating every aspect of their journey,” Benipayo said.
He emphasized that collaboration with government agencies and PITX management would help address passenger congestion and improve station operations.
The additional ticket counters will accommodate more passengers purchasing single journey tickets and reloading stored value cards.
Ticket-vending machines will also be repositioned throughout the station to make them more accessible, particularly during peak hours.
Meanwhile, turnstile gates will be relocated and reconfigured to improve passenger circulation and reduce bottlenecks between commuters entering the station and those exiting arriving trains.
LRMC aims to complete the station improvements within the fourth quarter of 2026.
The railway operator is also working with the management of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) to improve connections between bus and rail services.
While the permanent upgrades are underway, LRMC has installed satellite ticket booths to accommodate passengers and shorten waiting times during periods of heavy passenger traffic.
An express lane remains available for stored value cardholders with sufficient balance, while regular lanes continue to serve passengers buying single journey tickets or reloading their cards.
LRMC said the improvements form part of its continuing efforts to enhance passenger convenience, station accessibility and overall service efficiency.
