LPA to dampen Visayas, 3 regions

A low pressure area (LPA) near Cuyo, Palawan will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and the southern part of Calabarzon, particularly in Batangas and Quezon, according to PAGASA’s latest bulletin released Sunday at 4 a.m.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was spotted 310 kilometers northwest of Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte or 55 kilometers south southeast of Cuyo, Palawan. PAGASA warned that the rains could lead to flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards due to moderate to at times heavy precipitation.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought by the easterlies.

Meanwhile, 17 areas in the country are expected to experience a “danger level” heat index ranging from 42°C to 44°C. The heat index refers to the actual feel of temperature when humidity is combined with air temperature, and prolonged exposure could cause heat cramps, exhaustion, or even heat stroke.

Aparri and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, ISU Echague in Isabela, and Sangley Point in Cavite are expected to record the highest heat index at 44°C. Other areas forecast to hit 43°C include NAIA in Pasay City, Bacnotan in La Union, Iba in Zambales, Cubi Point in Subic, TAU Camiling and Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac, and Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas.

Several locations will experience 42°C heat index, including Sinait in Ilocos Sur, Laoag in Ilocos Norte, Dagupan in Pangasinan, MMSU Batac in Ilocos Norte, and Tayabas City and Alabat in Quezon province.

PAGASA urges the public to take precautions and limit outdoor activities during peak hours to avoid heat-related illnesses.
