The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in partnership with United States forces, conducted a high-intensity Counter-landing and Live-Fire Exercise in Barangay Dodan, Aparri, Cagayan on Saturday, as part of the ongoing “Exercise Balikatan 40-25.”
The simulation involved the detection of an Amphibious Task Group representing an enemy threat attempting to land along the northern coastline. In swift response, Philippine and US forces launched a synchronized counter-landing operation to block the intrusion, showcasing joint strength and smooth interoperability.
The Philippine Army and Philippine Marine Corps deployed key assets such as Sabrah battle tanks, Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs), ATMOS 155mm self-propelled howitzers, and 105mm howitzers, supported by advanced targeting systems like the Smart Shooter and maneuvering infantry.
US forces bolstered the defense with formidable air and ground firepower. These included AH-64 Apache helicopters, F-16 fighter jets, and a P-8A Poseidon aircraft providing maritime surveillance and reconnaissance. The US also contributed real-time targeting via advanced cuing and sensing systems, along with small-arms fire support.
Participating units from the Philippines included the Marine Corps, Army, Special Operations Command, Marine Reservists, and Air Force. They trained closely with US Marine Corps and Army units, artillery teams, and safety personnel.
The joint live-fire drill underscored the precision, readiness, and commitment of both nations to defend strategic coastal zones and uphold maritime security in the Indo-Pacific.
