First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined the spouses of Asia-Pacific leaders in a captivating cultural immersion on Friday, hosted by South Korean First Lady Kim Hea Kyung in the historic coastal city of Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang.
The group explored some of South Korea’s most cherished heritage sites, including the centuries-old Bulguksa Temple and the contemporary Wooyang Art Museum, both of which celebrate the country’s enduring blend of tradition and modern creativity.
On Instagram, Araneta-Marcos shared snapshots of her experience, expressing admiration for South Korea’s artistry and cultural depth. “Blown away by the culture and history of beautiful Gyeongju. From the serene beauty of Bulguksa Temple to the inspiring modern works at Wooyang Art Museum, every stop was a reminder of how art, faith, and heritage can live beautifully side by side,” she wrote. She also extended gratitude to her Korean counterpart, adding, “So grateful to experience this with my fellow APEC spouses. Special thanks to First Lady Kim Hea Kyung for such a memorable cultural program. Loved every moment.”
The tour formed part of the APEC Spouse Program, which highlights the host nation’s artistic and historical treasures. Other participants included Diana Fox Carney of Canada, Amanda Luxon of New Zealand, Ruth Lui of Singapore, and Thananon Niramit of Thailand. Lin Wen-hsuan, daughter of Taiwan’s senior presidential adviser Lin Hsin-i, also took part in the event.
That evening, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. attended the APEC gala dinner hosted by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, joined by fellow heads of state, their spouses, high-ranking Korean officials, and global business leaders. In his remarks, Lee emphasized the importance of peace and shared prosperity across the Asia-Pacific region.
Guests were treated to a curated menu inspired by the ancient cuisine of Korea’s Silla Kingdom, crafted by celebrity chef Edward Lee—a fitting finale to a day celebrating the harmony of heritage, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
