ILOILO CITY — Eighty-two local government units from across the Philippines were hailed by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) as the country’s newest champions of disaster preparedness, asset protection, and resilient governance at the 2025 Seal of Protection Awards—held in Iloilo City for the very first time.

In remarks delivered by GSIS Executive Vice President Jason Teng, GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso praised the awardees for choosing foresight over vulnerability and public safety over complacency. He emphasized that every insured property represents uninterrupted public service, even in the face of fires, floods, and other disasters.

Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas, hosting the ceremony, underscored how insured government buildings and assets allow local governments to stay operational during crises. She lauded LGUs for safeguarding not just structures, but the essential services their communities rely on every day.

This year’s roster of Gold Awardees includes Bayambang, Lingayen, Urdaneta, Solano, Valenzuela, the Provincial Government of Albay, Basud, San Vicente (Palawan), Bago City, Iloilo City, Davao City, Quezon City, Tanay, Makati City, and Pasig City—two of which, Makati and Pasig, entered the Hall of Fame for maintaining Gold standing for three straight award cycles.

The full list of 82 awardees can be accessed through the official link provided by GSIS.

The ceremony also honored five institutions for their contribution to protecting government assets through general insurance: the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Asian Development Bank, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Clark Development Corporation, and Iloilo City.

Anchored on Republic Act No. 656, the Seal of Protection program reinforces the mandate to insure government properties. GSIS said the growing number of compliant LGUs signals a nationwide shift toward stronger, smarter, and more accountable local governance—one that keeps communities safer and more resilient in a time of rising risks.
