Lanao del Sur Representative Zia Alonto Adiong on Sunday said any impeachment move against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. must adhere strictly to constitutional requirements.
Adiong emphasized that the process is a solemn mechanism outlined in the 1987 Constitution and should not be influenced by partisan pressure or public speculation.
He stressed that complaints must be based on clear evidence and solid facts to meet constitutional standards and withstand scrutiny in the House of Representatives.
The lawmaker noted that fairness and proper procedure are essential, regardless of the individual facing the impeachment complaint.
Alonto Adiong cautioned against treating impeachment as a political tool or as a response to rumors, underscoring that only grave and provable offenses justify such action.
He expressed confidence that the lower chamber will assess any complaint on its legal and factual merits, without being swayed by unverified claims or partisan narratives.
The remarks come amid circulating rumors of impeachment filings against Marcos, particularly linked to the flood control corruption scandal and disputed items in the 2025 national budget.
