The Laguna provincial government deployed government buses to provide free rides to commuters affected by jeepney service disruptions in parts of the province, an official said Monday.
Governor Sol Aragones ordered the implementation of the “Libreng Sakay” program to maintain mobility along affected routes.
The initiative was set to run until April 15 and covered several towns, including Los Baños, Bay, Victoria, Pila, Majayjay, Liliw, Magdalena, Famy, Paete, Kalayaan, Lumban, and Pagsanjan.
Authorities identified key pick-up points at major transport hubs, hospitals, and municipal centers across the covered areas.
Several local government units also provided additional shuttle services to support commuters in their respective jurisdictions.
These included Pagsanjan, Liliw, Magdalena, Santa Cruz, and Biñan City.
Some jeepney operators along selected routes adjusted their operations through unit rotation to manage costs and maintain limited service.
Officials said the provincial shuttle deployment was intended to supplement existing transport services during the disruption period.
