Kanlaon Volcano emits ash twice

Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash twice on Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The first emission occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 7:29 a.m., followed by another from 7:39 a.m. to 8:05 a.m., producing grayish plumes that rose up to 600 meters high.

Phivolcs said the volcano remains under Alert Level 2, indicating a moderate level of unrest.

Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol earlier explained that ash emissions are expected under this alert level due to the release of volcanic gas and pressure.

He said degassing can lift fine, dry materials from the crater, resulting in visible ash emissions.
