Jo Koy safe after emergency landing in Japan during flight from Manila to LA

Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy assured fans he is safe after a harrowing experience aboard a flight from Manila to Los Angeles that made an emergency landing in Tokyo due to an electrical fire. In an Instagram post on Thursday, Jo Koy shared a video of himself and his family calmly having a meal after the incident, grateful that things didn’t take a turn for the worse.

“We were on our way back to LA from Philippines when the entire cabin filled with smoke (due to electrical fire). We then made an emergency landing into Tokyo, Japan,” he wrote in the caption, praising the Philippine Airlines crew for their professionalism and composure. “They remained calm in a situation that could have gone south fast,” he added.

Despite the terrifying situation, Jo Koy kept his trademark humor intact. “We are safe, we are in Tokyo, and our next flight out is in nine hours so we are going to have some sake. I love you guys,” he said in the video.

According to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, the Philippine Airlines flight left Manila at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. It landed safely at Haneda Airport in Japan early Thursday morning. Fortunately, all passengers and crew, including Jo Koy, were unharmed.

The incident comes shortly after Jo Koy’s recent visit to the Philippines, where he appeared on the noontime show It’s Showtime and participated in charity work through his foundation in Bacolod. His trip is part of a busy schedule, as he continues filming his latest Netflix comedy special.

Jo Koy is also set to return to the stage in the Philippines for his “Just Being Koy” tour, with a highly anticipated show at the Mall of Asia Arena on June 21. Despite the scare, fans can look forward to more laughs and meaningful moments from the comedian who continues to wear his Filipino roots proudly.
