The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday, while Severe Tropical Storm Queenie continues to move away from the country, PAGASA said.
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Palawan and Davao Oriental may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Moderate to at times heavy rains could trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas, PAGASA warned.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ and localized thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected across the archipelago.
Meanwhile, Queenie was last located 600 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 115 kph. It was moving northwestward at 15 kph.
PAGASA said Queenie is expected to slow down while moving north-northwestward before turning north-northeastward by Sunday morning.
The storm is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Sunday afternoon and evening before accelerating northeastward toward the sea east of mainland Japan.
Queenie may intensify into a typhoon by Saturday evening or Sunday and strengthen further while moving south of the Okinawa Islands. It is expected to begin weakening by Monday after reaching peak intensity.
