PANGASINAN – Fresh graduates from several towns in Pangasinan’s third district are gaining work experience and financial support through the Department of Labor and Employment’s Government Internship Program (GIP).
Julie Ann De Vera of Calasiao, a recent Elementary Education graduate, said the program would help her save for the licensure examination without relying on her family.
“I won’t need to ask my family for the licensure exam fees, and I would even give them the extra amount from my salary,” De Vera said.
Under the program, beneficiaries will work for three months starting Sept. 28 and receive a daily wage of Php 505 from Monday to Friday. Their contracts may be extended depending on the availability of funds.
Zandara Diaz of San Carlos City, a Bachelor of Secondary Education graduate, said the internship gives fresh graduates an opportunity to earn while gaining experience in a difficult job market.
Alexander Del Rosario, also from San Carlos City and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology graduate, said the program would allow him to develop practical skills he could use in future employment. His internship with the Department of the Interior and Local Government is also aligned with his field of study.
Gemma Rose Abuan of Malasiqui, another Bachelor of Secondary Education graduate, said she sees the GIP as a possible stepping stone to a career in government service.
The GIP aims to help young workers develop their skills and potential in public service. Applicants must generally be 18 to 30 years old and have at least a high school diploma, although exceptions may be allowed in areas affected by disasters or other extraordinary circumstances.
