Iran’s judiciary rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that Tehran had released an American woman who had been detained since December 2024.
In a statement carried by the semi-official Press TV, the judiciary said no American accused of espionage had been freed from prison.
The denial came after Trump announced that an American woman had been allowed to leave Iran.
Trump later identified the woman as Dena Karari after her lawyer confirmed her identity.
He said Karari had been wrongfully detained and was now safely outside Iran and in good condition.
The US president also described Iran’s action as a gesture of goodwill in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Iranian authorities, however, maintained that no American detainee had been released.
The conflicting statements added to uncertainty over the status of Karari and the circumstances surrounding her reported departure from Iran.
