The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to summon three officials of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee as part of its inquiry into alleged funding anomalies involving the sports complex used for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag said Friday that the bureau would require the officials to appear and provide information related to the project in New Clark City, Tarlac.

Those expected to receive subpoenas are Phisgoc chair Ramon “Tats” Suzara, chief financial officer Dexter Estacio and corporate secretary John Lester Buenconsejo.

Matibag said the subpoenas would be issued on Monday, directing the three officials to report to the NBI on Friday, July 24.

The investigation centers on questions surrounding the financing of the sports facilities constructed for the regional sporting event.

The NBI earlier indicated that other individuals involved in the planning and implementation of the project could also be asked to assist in clarifying the transactions under review.

Matibag also questioned why Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano had reacted to the announcement of the investigation even though the senator had not been identified as a subject of the probe.

The bureau has yet to disclose the specific transactions being examined as investigators continue gathering records and statements related to the construction and funding of the New Clark City complex.
