Iran accused the United States on Wednesday of undermining a framework agreement between the two countries through what it described as unilateral actions and attacks.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Washington’s moves had weakened the memorandum of understanding earlier reached by the two sides.
In a post on X, Baqaei said the agreement was not built on trust but on a system of reciprocal commitments.
He said Iran had seen no sign of good faith from the United States even from the beginning of the process.
Baqaei cited Article Five of the memorandum, which he said gave Iran the authority to determine arrangements for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
He said the United States had challenged that provision through unilateral actions and what he called aggressive attacks against Iran.
Baqaei said Tehran would continue to protect its interests and exercise its sovereignty in response to the situation.
His remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump said the memorandum signed with Iran to end the conflict was no longer in effect.
