Insular Life (InLife), the country’s first and largest Filipino life insurance company, is charging ahead in its commitment to sustainability through a bold partnership with ACEN, the Ayala Group’s energy platform, to power its buildings with renewable energy.

The landmark collaboration marks a major stride in InLife’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, as it transitions its flagship properties—the Insular Life Corporate Centre (ILCC) in Alabang and the Insular Life Makati (ILM) Building—toward cleaner and more sustainable operations.

The transition kicked off at ILCC in March 2025, with the Makati property following suit this June. By sourcing power through ACEN’s renewable energy supply, InLife aims to significantly cut its carbon footprint and help mitigate the effects of climate change.

At ILCC, renewable energy is delivered via the Retail Electricity Supply (RES) market under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework. This setup empowers large consumers like InLife to choose renewable electricity providers. During daytime operations, ILCC now runs on 100% renewable power, while nighttime energy is sourced from a mix of suppliers. This initiative is expected to slash carbon emissions by a staggering 1,746 tons of CO₂ annually—the equivalent of 6.9 million kilometers of car travel or the environmental impact of over 26,000 trees grown over 25 to 35 years.

The ILM Building in Makati will source its green energy through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), established under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008. With this move, ILM is projected to reduce its annual CO₂ emissions by 2,154 tons—similar to eliminating 8.6 million kilometers of vehicle travel or planting more than 32,000 trees.

“InLife’s transition to renewable energy and adherence to globally recognized standards in environmentally safe infrastructure are efforts to lead by example and drive meaningful change toward a sustainable future,” said Hector A. Caunan, InLife Executive Vice President and Chief Property and Investment Officer.

InLife’s green efforts are not just powered by promises—they’re certified by some of the world’s top sustainability rating systems. ILM was awarded the prestigious LEED Gold Certification in 2018 after a major renovation. More recently, it also received the WELL Health-Safety Rating from the International WELL Building Institute in April 2024, emphasizing its focus on both environmental performance and occupant well-being.

Meanwhile, ILCC earned the EDGE Certification (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) from the Philippine Green Building Initiative in April 2025, recognizing its 20% reduction in energy use, water use, and embodied carbon materials compared to standard local buildings.

InLife’s green vision extends beyond its major headquarters. Its Cebu Business Centre (ILCBC) has been receiving International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) annually, confirming its electricity comes from verified renewable sources. Since 2024, the facility has also implemented a high-efficiency air conditioning system to further enhance energy performance and comfort.

On top of that, InLife is installing solar panels in its other provincial buildings to further reduce electricity consumption and boost reliance on renewable sources.

These efforts demonstrate InLife’s unwavering commitment to sustainable business practices. From certifications to clean energy transitions, InLife is showing that economic success and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand.
