The House Committee on Justice will start hearings on the impeachment complaints filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on February 2.
The schedule was released in a Notice of Meeting dated January 28 and signed by committee chairperson Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro.
Only members of the House of Representatives are invited to attend, Luistro said, adding that she will deliver an opening statement outlining the ground rules for the hearing.
Two verified complaints have been filed against Marcos: one by lawyer Andre De Jesus, endorsed by House Deputy Minority Leader and Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jernie Jett Nisay, and another by Makabayan coalition members including Liza Largoza Maza, Teodoro Casiño, Renato Reyes Jr., Atty. Neri Colmenares, and labor leader Ronaldo Adonis.
The Makabayan complaint was further endorsed by ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio, Gabriela Women’s Party-list Rep. Sarah Elago, and Kabataan Party-list Rep. Renee Louise Co.
Luistro said the first hearing will focus on the mandatory consolidation of the two complaints, as both will be considered as one case for deliberation.
Complainants will be asked to deliver their sponsorship speeches, after which the panel will determine whether the complaint is sufficient in form and substance before proceeding.
