In response to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. (PBBM)’s call to expand accessiblity to quality education, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is scheduled to launch this month its Subsidy for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Program (GSSP) for qualified children of GSIS active members.
Prior to this, the President urged concerned government agencies to expand access to quality education with the goal of developing a future-ready Filipino workforce through investments in learning and skills development.
According to GSIS president and general manager Jose Arnulfo ‘Wick’ Veloso, the GSSP is open to children of active members with permanent employment status, Salary Grade 15 and below, and updated premium payments for the last three months.
GM Veloso added that eligible nominees must be incoming first-time college freshmen who obtained a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 90 percent in Senior High School and are enrolled in identified STEM degree programs.
We have allotted 1,000 slots nationwide, with twenty percent reserved for applicants from special sectors, including indigenous peoples (IPs), solo parent families, persons-with-disabilities (PWDs) and other qualified groups,” he cited.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the program, GSIS will be conducting a nationwide orientation for GSIS-assigned coordinators covering the program guidelines, requirements, application procedures and selection process.
President Marcos Jr. has consistently emphasized that education remains one of the administration’s top priorities, stressing that every Filipino student deserves access to quality education and a better future.
Through the GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program, GSIS reaffirms its commitment to helping provide quality education opportunities and empowering more Filipino learners to succeed in fields that drive innovation and national development.
