Drivers caught violating traffic laws in viral social media videos will face an automatic 90-day license suspension, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced on Monday. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is cracking down on rogue drivers, with no investigation or hearing required once a clear violation is seen on video.
“No investigation, no hearing, if we see a video with enough proof that you abused traffic rules, your licenses are suspended automatically,” said Dizon during a press conference at the DOTr office in San Juan City.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has already started implementing the directive. A vlogger named “Yanna” had her license suspended after being involved in a road rage incident in Zambales, where she made an obscene gesture during a confrontation on the road.
“I don’t care if you are a famous vlogger, I don’t care. Your license will be suspended and may be revoked, you can no longer drive motorcycles. This warning is especially for those who drive motorcycles to earn. If you lose your licenses, you can no longer operate these vehicles,” Dizon added.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II also named vlogger Robert Uson, who runs the “Smoke Machine” page, as one of those served with a Show Cause Order. Uson previously uploaded a video showing his Innova racing against a Land Cruiser on public roads, which is now under review for license suspension.
The DOTr’s move is part of broader efforts to improve road safety following a series of crashes and violations being shared online. Dizon also earlier mandated drug testing for PUV drivers every 90 days, reduced working hours, strict vehicle checks, enforcement of the speed limiter law, and proposed the creation of a Public Transport Safety Board.
