Global Esports (GE), a squad with several Filipino players, is now in danger of losing their grip on the final playoff spot in Group Alpha after a 2-0 sweep by Gen.G, the reigning Masters Shanghai champions.
Before the match, GE made a roster change with Filipino duelist Mark “patrickWHO” Musni sitting out in favor of Derrick “Deryeon” Yee, who made his first appearance in Stage 1.
Gen.G dominated the series, starting with a commanding 13-5 win on Haven, where GE managed only four rounds in the first half and just one more in the second.
The momentum continued on Pearl, as Gen.G quickly secured a 6-0 lead. GE managed to put some rounds on the board but still trailed 4-8 at halftime. Despite taking the pistol and anti-eco rounds in the second half, GE only added one more round before falling 7-13.
GE’s playoff hopes now hinge on their final match against Paper Rex (PRX) on April 19. A loss would cost them the last playoff berth in Group Alpha and potentially hand it over to PRX, who are still hunting for their first win in Stage 1.
