One of the worst-kept secrets in Philippine volleyball is finally confirmed — Bernadeth Pons and Sisi Rondina are making their return to beach volleyball for the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.
After focusing on indoor volleyball in recent years, the duo popularly known as “SiPons” is shifting their sights back to the sand. Their absence from the Alas Pilipinas Women’s wishlist had fans speculating — and this return provides the answer.
Pons and Rondina last teamed up in 2022 to win a bronze medal in beach volleyball, repeating their 2019 feat. However, they played with different partners in the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games and missed the podium.
“Personally talaga, medyo disappointed kami sa result namin nung SEA Games kasi nga coming from bronze tapos biglang wala kaming place nung last na SEA Games,” said Pons.
“So parang doon pa lang talaga, gusto na namin talaga na bumawi sa darating na SEA Games, so ‘yun ‘yung bakit gusto pa namin ulit maglaro.”
Now back together, the pair is determined to reclaim their place on the podium.
“Siyempre sobrang happy and sobrang excited na rin kasi parang medyo matagal din eh kasi nung last na SEA Games hindi rin kami ‘yung partner and ‘yun bumalik kami ng indoor so excited ako sa pagbabalik namin,” added the Creamline standout.
Their training will begin after the recently concluded 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, where both suffered tough losses — Rondina’s Choco Mucho settled for fourth place after losing to Akari, while Pons’ Creamline fell to Petro Gazz in the finals.
