MANILA – Senate President Win Gatchalian has called on the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to determine the source of P776 million in reported financial inflows to CALE88 Foods Corp. following questions raised during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Gatchalian questioned the significant discrepancy between the company’s reported sales of Php 208.49 million and financial inflows amounting to Php 776 million.
The difference of approximately Php 567.51 million raised questions about the nature and origin of the funds received by the company.
Gatchalian urged the BIR to examine the company’s financial records and determine whether the transactions were properly accounted for and reflected in its tax declarations.
The senator’s inquiry came as financial transactions involving companies allegedly associated with Duterte’s family were being scrutinized during the impeachment proceedings.
However, financial inflows do not necessarily represent taxable sales or income, as they may include loans, capital contributions, transfers, and other transactions.
Further examination of the company’s records would be necessary to establish the nature of the funds and determine whether any tax regulations were violated.
The discrepancy alone does not establish wrongdoing by CALE88 Foods Corp. or any individual connected to the company.
