Rescuers were trying to reach at least 933 workers believed trapped at hydropower projects in Nepal after devastating floods severed access to several sites, authorities said Monday.
The workers were stranded at around six hydropower facilities as damaged roads and bridges complicated efforts to reach flood-hit areas, according to Nepal’s Disaster Management Authority.
Emergency teams continued rescue and relief operations while authorities worked to determine conditions at the affected facilities and establish access to the stranded workers.
Last week’s floods caused widespread destruction across Nepal, damaging transportation links and other infrastructure and leaving some communities difficult to reach.
The disaster has also raised concerns over the condition of the country’s hydropower infrastructure, with authorities assessing damage at affected facilities.
No detailed information was immediately available on the condition of the 933 workers or the extent of damage at the six hydropower projects.
Search teams, meanwhile, continued looking for people reported missing after floods and landslides struck several parts of the country.
Relief operations remained underway as authorities sought to reconnect isolated areas and assess the broader damage caused by the disaster.
