Meralco closes in on full power restoration as Habagat relief drive kicks off

Power has returned to nearly all Meralco customers affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon, with the utility now racing to restore service to the final pockets of communities hit by severe rains and flooding.

The Manila Electric Company said only about 2,800 customers remained without electricity, equivalent to less than one percent of its total customer base, following round-the-clock restoration work by its crews and personnel.

More than 1,000 of the remaining outages are in flooded communities, where restoration work may be delayed by safety and access concerns. Most of the affected customers are in parts of Metro Manila, Cavite and Bulacan.

Meralco crews have been deployed across affected areas to repair damaged facilities, including broken poles and other distribution equipment battered by the weather.

“Our crews and personnel continue to work tirelessly to complete power restoration to the remaining customers,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.

“We thank our customers for their patience and their help in reporting outages in their areas, which allowed us to expedite restoration efforts,” he added.

As electricity service nears full restoration, Meralco is also shifting part of its response toward helping families recover from the impact of the heavy rains and floods.

Its corporate social responsibility arm, One Meralco Foundation, has started preparing relief packs for distribution to disaster-stricken communities. Meralco employee-volunteers are also being mobilized to assist in relief operations in the coming days.

The initiative expands Meralco’s Habagat response beyond restoring electricity, as affected households contend with flooding, damaged property and other disruptions caused by the prolonged rains.

Customers who remain without power or have other electricity-related concerns may report them through Meralco’s official Facebook page and X account @meralco.

They may also send a text message to 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or call the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
