A luxury car driver’s attempt to show off online has cost him his license. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has suspended for 90 days the license of a man caught on video driving a Ferrari sports car while filming himself behind the wheel.
According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the video showed the driver operating a red Ferrari convertible while holding a phone, apparently documenting his drive for social media. Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez condemned the act as a reckless display of arrogance that endangered other motorists.
“Driving is a shared responsibility. Stunts like this are dangerous not only to the driver but to everyone else on the road,” Lopez said. “We will not tolerate this kind of behavior. Roads are not racetracks, and driving should never be about showing off.”
The LTO issued a show cause order requiring the Ferrari owner to appear before its Intelligence and Investigation Division in Quezon City on October 30. He must explain why he should not be charged for reckless driving and violating the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, and why his license should not be revoked for being an “improper person to operate a motor vehicle.”
The order also directed the driver to surrender his license and placed his vehicle, with plate number NBY7985, under alarm status—preventing any transfer or renewal of registration while the investigation is ongoing.
Pending the results, the LTO has imposed a preventive suspension on his driver’s license for 90 days.
The DOTr reiterated that the case should serve as a reminder to motorists that public roads are not for vanity videos or viral content. “A driver’s license is a privilege, not a trophy for showing off,” Lopez said.
