Fair weather to prevail over most of PH this weekend

Most parts of the country are expected to experience generally fair weather through the weekend, although isolated thunderstorms may still develop in some areas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Friday.

Pagasa said localized rain showers and thunderstorms remained possible, particularly over parts of Luzon during the afternoon because of daytime heating.

Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions would continue to prevail across much of the country despite the chance of isolated downpours.

The southwest monsoon, or habagat, was affecting only Extreme Northern Luzon, where cloudy skies and intermittent rains were expected over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

Pagasa said the monsoon could gradually expand its influence over the weekend, bringing scattered rains to the Ilocos Region, Bataan and Zambales by Sunday.

The agency added that the weather system was expected to continue affecting the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon, as well as parts of Western Visayas, from Monday through Tuesday.

Moreover, the tropical depression being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility was unlikely to enter the country’s monitoring area and was expected to weaken into a low pressure area in the coming days.

As of 3 a.m. Friday, the weather disturbance was located about 2,965 kilometers east of Southeastern Mindanao, moving slowly northwestward with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph.
