The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) summoned the operator of a passenger jeepney involved in a road crash in Bataan that injured 18 people.
LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza said a show cause order had been issued to the Dinalupihan-Olongapo Multipurpose Cooperative, which operated the jeepney involved in the July 14 incident.
The cooperative was ordered to explain why its franchise should not be suspended or canceled over possible violations of road safety rules.
Initial findings showed that the jeepney struck a bus parked along the roadside before crashing into a post in Barangay Roosevelt.
Police suspected that a brake malfunction may have caused the accident, which injured 18 people, including the jeepney driver.
Mendoza said the LTFRB would examine the circumstances of the crash, including the roadworthiness of the vehicle and the operator’s compliance with safety requirements.
The cooperative was given three days from receipt of the show cause order to submit its response. The hearing was scheduled for July 28.
The LTFRB also directed its regional office to check on the condition of the victims and determine the status of their insurance claims.
