The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Western Visayas (DSWD-6) has released about Php 45.29 million to 15,099 qualified senior citizens under the Social Pension Program.
DSWD-6 regional information officer Therese Fely Legaste said the payout covers the first quarter of 2026 and started last week.
The payout provides Php1,000 per month for the first quarter. So far, five municipalities have started distributing the pension, including Balete in Aklan, and Lemery, Sara, Zarraga, and Passi City in Iloilo.
The department is coordinating with other local government units to carry out the payout, either through fund transfers to LGUs or directly via DSWD personnel.
Legaste urged beneficiaries to wait for announcements from their local governments for specific schedules or to check with their municipal social welfare offices.
She explained that the budget for the first quarter of 2026 is already available, so payouts can happen anytime within the quarter. However, specific schedules are not being publicly shared for security reasons.
The department targets to finish the payout by March or April.
Officials emphasized that the program aims to support elderly residents with regular financial assistance to help them meet their basic needs.
