Tourism workers in Leyte who completed training on basic first aid and life support received safety kits from the Department of Tourism regional office in Eastern Visayas.

A total of 25 participants from various tourism establishments across the province were given kits during a turnover event on Friday. The activity was also attended by business owners and representatives.

The recipients had completed Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support training in December 2025, which included cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of automated external defibrillators.

DOT officials said the kits are intended to help graduates apply their training at their workplaces and enhance emergency preparedness among frontline tourism personnel.

The event was led by DOT Eastern Visayas Regional Director Karina Tiopes, together with a representative from the Philippine Red Cross who served as a volunteer instructor and coordinator for the region.

In addition to distributing the kits, the Red Cross team briefed participants on the Safe Card accidental insurance program to raise awareness on risk management and emergency response in the tourism sector.

Donna Fe Abogado Batan of Viaje Holidays, one of the beneficiaries, said the training helped strengthen her confidence and readiness to act during emergencies involving guests or staff.

The DOT regional office emphasized that the initiative is part of ongoing capacity-building programs to improve safety standards and build more resilient tourism destinations across Eastern Visayas.
