The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that a community livelihood project in Dinagat Islands has generated approximately Php 120,000 in income as of October 2026 through its Project LAWA at BINHI initiative.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited the Llamera Farmers and Fisherfolks Association in Barangay Llamera, Libjo, Dinagat Islands, on Saturday, October 24, to assess the project’s progress and its impact on local beneficiaries.

The project features a small farm reservoir used for tilapia production and a community-based vegetable garden designed to provide sustainable food sources and additional income opportunities for residents.

According to the DSWD, the initiative received a total grant of Php 391,500, benefiting 45 individuals through the Cash-for-Training (CFT) and Cash-for-Work (CFW) programs.

The project aims to strengthen food security, promote sustainable livelihoods, and help communities become more resilient to economic and environmental challenges.

The initiative also supports the administration’s efforts to improve agricultural productivity and expand livelihood opportunities in rural communities.

Gatchalian was accompanied by DSWD spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, Assistant Secretary for Community Engagement Ulysses Hermogenes Aguilar, DSWD Caraga Regional Director Mari-Flor Dollaga, Assistant Regional Director Jean Paul Parajes, Libjo Mayor Melody Compasivo, and other local officials.

Through Project LAWA at BINHI, the DSWD continues to promote community-driven livelihood initiatives aimed at improving household income and ensuring long-term food security.
