The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will roll out regional information caravans to counter misinformation, disinformation, and scams surrounding its programs and services, an official announced Thursday.
At a news forum in Quezon City, Public Relations Service (PRS) Director Clarissa Lara Duran introduced the “Tamang Tulong sa Tamang Impormasyon” initiative, which will be conducted twice in every region to educate communities—especially those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs)—on where to access verified and accurate information about DSWD assistance programs.
“The information caravan will focus on reaching marginalized communities that often fall victim to misleading or false claims about government assistance programs. Unfortunately, ang madalas na nagiging biktima ng fake news, misinformation, and disinformation ay yung mga benepisyaryo ng DSWD dahil sila yung pinaka-nangangailangan,” Duran said.
She emphasized that DSWD does not hold raffles or contests on social media, warning the public against fraudulent pages spreading false claims. With 4.4 million beneficiaries under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) alone, many are vulnerable to scams.
Spearheaded by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the “Tamang Tulong sa Tamang Impormasyon” caravan aims to ensure timely, transparent, and factual communication, protecting beneficiaries from exploitation and strengthening public trust in government assistance programs.
