The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Davao Region has distributed more than Php 228 million in assistance to families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck on June 8.
The agency said about 47,000 families, or nearly 156,000 individuals, received various forms of assistance following the disaster.
Government records also showed that 16,017 houses sustained damage, including 5,277 that were destroyed and 10,740 that suffered partial damage.
Davao Occidental recorded the highest number of affected families, with Jose Abad Santos emerging as the hardest-hit municipality. The town also reported thousands of displaced families and damaged houses.
Other areas that received assistance included Sarangani, Malita and Sta. Maria, where affected residents were provided financial and relief support.
The DSWD also extended aid to families displaced by the southwest monsoon, which affected more than 6,100 families across the region.
Hundreds of families remained in evacuation centers while others stayed with relatives or in temporary shelters. The agency also reported damage to 651 houses, most of which were totally destroyed.
The department said it had distributed more than Php 6 million worth of food packs, tents, hygiene kits and other relief items to monsoon-affected communities as response operations continued.
