DOTr unsure if 1 month is enough to plan EDSA rehab

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon admitted that a month may not be enough time to properly plan and strategize the rehabilitation of EDSA.

He noted that using traditional methods to address the project would likely require even more time.

This comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered a temporary suspension of the EDSA rehabilitation project. The administration is now re-evaluating how to reduce the project’s duration without sacrificing quality or safety.

President Marcos stressed the importance of streamlining construction and minimizing public inconvenience, instructing relevant agencies to seek faster and more efficient ways to complete the project.

In response, Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan highlighted the need to adopt modern technologies and advanced construction materials to meet the President’s goals. He also recommended looking into the best practices of developed countries that have successfully carried out similar large-scale infrastructure efforts, saying these could serve as useful models.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced the cancellation of the Odd-Even traffic scheme dry-run, which was set to start on June 16. The move aims to prevent added confusion while the project’s timeline and strategy are under review.
