Motorists have been reminded that carrying a physical driver’s license is no longer strictly necessary, as digital versions are now accepted during traffic checks, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.
The policy allows drivers to present their electronic or e-driver’s license as valid identification when flagged by law enforcers from the Land Transportation Office and its deputized units.
Transportation officials said the move is anchored on a standing department order that recognizes digital licenses as legitimate authorization to drive.
Under the system, drivers may display their license details through the Land Transportation Management System, even if the physical card is unavailable at the time of apprehension.
The department also pointed out that motorists issued Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOP) for traffic violations can now settle fines using online payment channels.
Officials said the digital process is part of broader efforts to modernize government services and make compliance with traffic rules faster and more convenient.
E-driver’s licenses are issued during license application or renewal and can be accessed through the LTMS portal or the eGovPH Super App.
