DOLE-5 allocates P160 Million for Uwan-Affected Workers

The Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol (DOLE-5) is finalizing preparations for the rollout of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program to help residents of Camarines Norte and Catanduanes affected by Super Typhoon Uwan.

DOLE-5 Regional Director Imelda Gatinao said over PHP160 million has been set aside for emergency employment in the two provinces.

“We are here to demonstrate the government’s support. We recognize that the DOLE program is intended for the displaced. We have been monitoring the situation and have observed that Camarines Norte and Catanduanes were hit particularly hard,” she said.

According to Gatinao, PHP30 million will be allocated for implementation in Camarines Norte, with another PHP40 million for profiling, while Catanduanes will receive PHP60 million.

She added that once the notice to proceed is issued, registration and distribution of protective equipment will begin by Friday, with beneficiaries expected to start work on Monday and receive their payout ten days later.

Gatinao also plans to visit Catanduanes to assure Governor Patrick Azanza of the agency’s support and said that DOLE will continue monitoring the program’s implementation through December.

“Aside from the two provinces, we also have for the other provinces, we are still assessing and continue to coordinate with our provincial offices,” she added.
