Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday introduced new officials to lead the DPWH Bulacan First District Engineering Office, which has been mired in controversy over flood control projects.
Dizon announced that Kenneth Fernando was appointed officer in charge district engineer, while Paul Gumabas was named assistant district engineer.
He also designated retired Army General Rommel Tello as regional director of DPWH Central Luzon.
The DPWH chief warned the newly installed officials against engaging in corrupt practices as he stressed the urgency of addressing flooding in Bulacan.
Dizon said residents of the province have endured flooding for nearly half of every year and urgently need concrete solutions.
“Our people in Bulacan need solutions,” Dizon said, adding that accountability must go hand in hand with action.
“Huwag kayong gagaya doon sa mga papalitan niyo,” he told the new officials.
The Commission on Audit has filed four Fraud Audit Reports with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure over alleged irregularities in Bulacan flood control projects worth hundreds of millions of pesos.
COA said all questioned projects were implemented by the DPWH Bulacan First District Engineering Office.
Former district engineers Henry Alcantara, Brice Ericson Hernandez, and Jaypee Mendoza were earlier flagged for alleged involvement in the projects cited in the audit reports.
