PASAY CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured the public that the Diokno Pumping Station in Pasay City continues to operate despite the reported theft of electrical components from the facility.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed on Wednesday, October 21, that the pumping station remains functional as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen flood control and prevent flooding in Metro Manila.
Dizon emphasized the importance of maintaining the facility’s operations in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to intensify flood mitigation measures across the National Capital Region.
The pumping station plays a role in draining excess water from surrounding areas, particularly during heavy rainfall, when flooding can disrupt transportation, businesses, and residential communities.
Despite the reported theft, the DPWH maintained that the facility continues to perform its flood control function.
The incident has also raised concerns over the security of critical flood control infrastructure, particularly equipment essential to the operation of pumping stations.
Ensuring the continuous operation of these facilities is important as Metro Manila remains vulnerable to flooding during intense rainfall and severe weather disturbances.
The DPWH reiterated its commitment to keeping flood control facilities operational to help protect communities and reduce the impact of flooding.
