DepEd introduces overtime pay for public school teachers

In time for National Teachers’ Month, the Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a new policy granting overtime compensation to public school teachers. According to Bam Alegre’s report on Unang Balita, teachers will receive 125% of their hourly rate for overtime on weekdays and 150% on weekends and holidays.

If funds are limited, overtime can be converted into Vacation Service Credits (VSC) following DepEd guidelines. Teachers must work at least two hours of overtime to qualify for monetary pay; less than two hours will be credited as vacation service.

Teachers may claim up to four hours of overtime daily, and only those with 30 classroom hours per week are eligible. The policy has been welcomed by several teachers interviewed at Pasay City West High School.
