DENR pushes scaling of circular economy solutions to fight plastic pollution

MANILA – Environment Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna called for successful circular economy solutions to move beyond pilot projects and become widely adopted as the Philippines strengthens efforts to address plastic pollution.

Speaking at the launching and signing ceremony of the Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution in the Philippines project on October 1, Cuna stressed the need to create an environment where effective approaches can be replicated and expanded.

“We must ensure that successful solutions do not remain isolated pilots. Our objective should be to create the conditions that allow effective approaches to be replicated, scaled up, and eventually become part of the mainstream economy,” Cuna said.

The initiative highlights the government’s push toward a circular economy, where materials and resources are kept in use for as long as possible while reducing waste and environmental pollution.

Cuna’s remarks underscored the importance of transforming proven solutions into broader and sustainable practices that can contribute to tackling the country’s plastic waste problem.
