Escudero reminds lawyers, non-lawyers to respect each other in VP Sara impeachment trial

Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Monday reminded lawyers and non-lawyers participating in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial to treat one another with respect as the Senate impeachment court resumed proceedings.

Escudero issued the reminder at the start of Day 33 of the trial, stressing that the proceedings should focus on establishing the truth and serving justice rather than defeating the opposing side.

“Our duty is not to conquer one another in this proceedings but to eliminate the truth and serve the cause of justice,” Escudero said, as quoted in a GMA News update.

The presiding officer called on participants to maintain professionalism despite disagreements that may arise during the presentation and examination of witnesses.

The impeachment court resumed hearings Monday as the prosecution continued presenting evidence in support of the articles of impeachment against Duterte.
