Death toll in Cebu Earthquake rises to 72 — NDRRMC

The death toll from the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu, and nearby provinces on Tuesday has climbed to 72, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday.

In its 6 a.m. report, the agency said all fatalities were recorded in Central Visayas, with 294 people reported injured in the same region.

The quake affected 47,221 families across 53 barangays in Central Visayas. Around 4,000 families remain in evacuation centers, while others are being assisted outside.

The tremor also damaged 597 houses—501 were partially damaged and 96 were totally destroyed—all located in Region 7.

The NDRRMC said it is still assessing the extent of damage to infrastructure and agriculture.
