Couchbase launches AI services to help enterprises confidently scale agentic AI

As enterprises move beyond experimenting with artificial intelligence and begin deploying autonomous, decision-making systems, Couchbase is positioning itself as a critical enabler of that shift. The company has announced the general availability of Couchbase AI Services, a new suite designed to help organizations build, run, and govern agentic AI applications in production—securely, reliably, and at scale.

Developed by Couchbase, the platform brings together operational data, vectors, and AI models into a single AI-native database environment. By unifying these traditionally fragmented components, Couchbase aims to remove one of the biggest barriers facing enterprises today: the difficulty of moving AI applications from promising prototypes into real-world, mission-critical systems.

According to Couchbase, many organizations struggle with the operational realities of AI adoption—integrating structured and unstructured data, managing vector search, governing rapidly evolving models, and addressing concerns around security, privacy, and AI hallucinations.

Couchbase AI Services tackles these challenges head-on by consolidating everything developers need into one governed platform, reducing complexity while improving performance and control.

“Customers moving from experimenting with AI agents to operationally deploying them need a robust solution for doing so,” said Barry Morris, Couchbase’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer. He said the new AI Services offering gives developers an end-to-end foundation for building intelligent applications that are secure, trustworthy, and performant, while allowing enterprises to standardize how agentic systems are built and deployed across teams.

At the core of the platform is integrated model hosting and data processing, including support for NVIDIA AI Enterprise through NVIDIA NIM microservices and Nemotron models. Automatic vector creation, storage, and search are built in, alongside a unified Agent Catalog that enables governance, traceability, and oversight of autonomous agents.

Intelligent agent memory allows applications to retain context across sessions, while built-in AI Functions let developers run SQL++-based analysis directly within applications, eliminating the need for external pipelines or tools.

By consolidating these capabilities, Couchbase reduces vendor sprawl and minimizes latency between data, vectors, and models—an advantage that translates into faster, more cost-effective large language model interactions and more predictable performance in production environments.

Beyond speed and simplicity, Couchbase is placing strong emphasis on trust and governance. AI Services include built-in validation and guardrails that allow enterprises to verify AI outputs against internal data and business rules before actions are executed.

This ensures that autonomous agents operate within defined policies and that every decision can be audited, traced, and explained—an increasingly critical requirement as AI systems take on greater responsibility.

For companies already deploying AI in high-stakes environments, the value is immediate. Joe Intrakamhang, CTO of SWARM Engineering, said his team relies on AI to optimize complex supply chains and workforce planning for agri-food and industrial clients.

He noted that Couchbase AI Services simplifies the entire retrieval-augmented generation pipeline, allowing engineers to focus on solving real business problems instead of managing infrastructure, while still meeting enterprise-grade security and control requirements.

The launch is also supported by a growing ecosystem of technology partners. NVIDIA said Couchbase’s integration of NIM microservices and Nemotron models helps accelerate the development of secure, production-ready AI agents. Arize AI highlighted how its observability platform enables continuous evaluation and monitoring of RAG and multi-agent systems when paired with Couchbase’s unified database.

Unstructured.io emphasized the importance of unlocking unstructured enterprise data by ingesting and vectorizing it directly into Couchbase AI Services, while K2view pointed to the role of high-quality, privacy-preserving synthetic data in grounding agentic AI systems.

Couchbase AI Services are available now, with documentation, tutorials, and reference architectures offered to developers looking to build production-grade agentic applications.

As enterprises increasingly turn to autonomous AI to drive productivity and decision-making, Couchbase is betting that control, governance, and simplicity—delivered through a single AI-native database platform—will be the difference between AI ambition and AI at scale.
