MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has warned the public against a social media post announcing that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will proceed this December.

“The Facebook post by an individual named ‘Gallaza Sharly Paradise’ – which claims that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will proceed in December 2026 and that the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) will begin on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026 – is fake news,” the Comelec said in a social media post on Saturday.

“There will be no Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections held this year under existing laws, and there will be no filing of COCs for such an election on Oct. 26, 2026.”

The commission also noted that it has halted its BSKE preparations since the law was passed, moving the polls to November 2028.

“The schedule for the filing of certificates of candidacy and other election-related activities is released solely through official resolutions and announcements from the Comelec,” it said.

“Following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s signing of Republic Act No. 12326 – which schedules the next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections for the second Monday of November 2028 – the Comelec has halted all related activities and preparations, including the filing of COCs.”

The poll body also asked the public to be cautious and not to believe all that they see or read online.

“Be discerning. Verify information before believing or sharing it. For official announcements regarding the elections, follow the official social media channels of the Comelec,
