City rolls out color-coded garbage bins to boost waste segregation

The Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) has stepped up its campaign for a cleaner environment with the distribution of nine color-coded garbage bins across communities, offices, and establishments on Monday.

“The rollout of nine color-coded garbage bins is in line with the directive of Mayor Khymer Olaso to fully enforce solid waste segregation under the city’s flagship environmental drive,” said OCENR acting chief Gerry Pollisco.

During a demonstration at City Hall, Pollisco showed officials and employees the proper disposal of plastics, metals, paper, residuals, healthcare waste, hazardous e-waste, biodegradable materials, and used cooking oil.

Mayor Khymer Olaso commended OCENR’s proactive efforts and ordered the swift rollout of the segregation program across the city.

The program will be enforced in city government offices, fast food chains, restaurants, and eventually throughout all areas of the city. It follows the Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) Guidelines set by the National Solid Waste Management Commission.
