A raiding team from the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) arrested a resort manager in Cebu after several exotic and endangered species of animals were found in her possession without the necessary permits and legal documentation.
Based on initial reports, operatives of the PNP-CIDG) with the coordinated assistance of representatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 7 raided the resort located in Barangay Kawit in Medellin, Cebu after receiving reports about the endangered animals.
Recovered by the authorities from the resort were four African spurred tortoises, six parrots, a black palm cockatoo and two golden macaws.
According to the raiding team, the resort owner, whose identity has been withheld pending the filing of charges against her, failed to present the necessary documents that would allow her to legally take care of the confiscated animals.
It was also learned that the arrested suspect was using the animals as an attraction for her clientele in her resort.
The female suspect will be charged with violation of Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
