Dear mindful readers,
Surprise!!! The sudden call by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos for all cabinet secretaries and heads of agencies to submit their courtesy resignations in the wake of an underwhelming turnout of administration candidates in the recent midterm election is nothing short of an indication of the President’s frustration and screaming disgusto of the election results. With a sweeping 11-0 expectation but yielding only 6 of them, not one even from the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), his political party, he is hell bent on undertaking a deep and thorough analysis of what went wrong, while clutching his forehead, and letting out an ear-shattering “I hear you!” to the entire Filipino citizenry.
The less-than-expected performance of the Bagong Alyansa candidates in the recent election had obviously raised concerns about the effectiveness and public perception of the current administration. By ordering for courtesy resignations, the President seeks to evaluate and potentially replace those who did not meet expectations, aiming to strengthen the administration’s overall effectiveness and public standing.
Elections also serve as a barometer for public sentiment and confidence in government leadership. A dismal showing is a translation of dissatisfaction among the electorate. The call for resignations presents as a strategy for reform, allowing the President to reset and realign his administration’s priorities by bringing in new talents or making necessary changes at the leadership level.
The President also hopes to realign his administration to better reflect the current political landscape or perhaps appease certain factions or constituencies that were not satisfied with how the government was run during the first 3 years of his administration.
Hail to the Chief who exemplifies accountability and responsiveness to the electorate’s apparent discontent as reflected by the election results. It shows a willingness to make necessary changes to address potential shortcomings. This move will also strengthen governance by ensuring that only those who are most capable, aligned with his vision, or who have regained public trust, remain in key positions while allowing for the potential removal of underperforming leaders and the appointment of individuals who might drive more effective policy implementation.
Such a move is a commendable proactive step to align his team with current goals, improve public perception, and ensure that the administration is well-equipped to push forward with its agenda and foster increased effectiveness and public confidence moving forward.
