Tourists visiting Boracay are reminded that parties and loud sounds are strictly prohibited on the island during Good Friday as part of a local ordinance encouraging solemn reflection.
“Every Good Friday, starting 6 a.m., loud sound is prohibited. We know that Boracay Island is a party destination, so we have a Sangguniang Bayan resolution that during that day we have to reflect, so parties and loud sounds are not allowed,” said Malay Tourism Office information officer Kathrine Licerio on Tuesday.
Tourists are welcome to enjoy beach activities and water sports before Good Friday and after 6 a.m. on Black Saturday. The restriction is lifted after the solemn day.
The municipality of Malay expects around 59,438 tourists to arrive on the island from April 14 to 20, with a daily target of 8,500 visitors.
Aside from the beach festivities, guests are encouraged to explore other mainland attractions in Malay.
To ensure Boracay stays clean during the tourist influx, the local government is organizing a municipal-wide coastal and underwater cleanup from April 17 to 22. Tourism front-liners, private offices, volunteers, and various agencies are expected to participate.
“During this week, we expect an influx of tourists, so there is a need to maintain the cleanliness of our white beach,” Licerio added.
