The Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured the public that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is fully prepared to accommodate the surge of travelers this Holy Week.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, alongside officials from the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the Manila International Airport Authority, and the Bureau of Immigration (BI), conducted an early Tuesday inspection at NAIA Terminal 3 to ensure readiness.
“We’ve seen it is well-prepared. This (preparedness) should be continuous so that smooth travel will be experienced not just during Holy Week but throughout the year,” Dizon said in Filipino.
Notably, immigration queues were faster and less crowded during the visit. To support the increase in travelers, the BI deployed 48 additional personnel to NAIA and opened dedicated counters for overseas Filipino workers at Terminal 3.
According to NNIC general manager Lito Alvarez, NAIA could handle a daily average of 155,000 to 157,000 passengers this season. The airport expects to welcome over 1.18 million travelers during Holy Week—up by 14.23% from 1.04 million in 2023.
