Biden turns 82, breaking presidential records

President Joe Biden marked his 82nd birthday on Wednesday, becoming the first sitting U.S. president to reach this milestone.

The president did not hold any public celebrations, having returned late the previous night from a trip to South America.

On social media, several prominent figures, including First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former president Barack Obama, shared their birthday wishes.

“Happy Birthday, Joe. I love you,” the first lady posted on Facebook.

“Happy birthday to my friend, @JoeBiden!” Obama wrote on X.

“Happy birthday to my dear friend and our incredible president, Joe Biden,” Harris captioned her post on X.

Biden’s age became a subject of debate earlier this year, especially after his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race in July. Concerns about his age and mental fitness, partly fueled by a shaky debate performance against Donald Trump in June, influenced that decision.

Biden surpasses the previous age record held by Ronald Reagan, who left office at 77 after two terms.

However, Trump, 78, is set to break Biden’s record. He will be 82 years and seven months at the time of the next presidential transition in 2029.
