As part of a three-year celebration marking 50 years of advertising self-regulation in the Philippines, the Ad Standards Council (ASC) hosted its second tribute event on May 15 at Makati Diamond Residences. The evening honored “The Nurturers” — distinguished individuals who played a vital role in shaping, sustaining, and strengthening the country’s self-regulatory advertising framework.
Organized by the ASC with support from its seven member associations — the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As PH), Digital Marketing Association of the Philippines (DMAP), Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), Media Specialists Association of the Philippines (MSAP), Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA), United Print Media Group (UPMG), and Out of Home Advertising Association of the Philippines (OHAAP) — the tribute recognized those whose steadfast advocacy has upheld the values of truth, fairness, honesty, and decency in advertising

This year’s honorees, fittingly called “The Nurturers,” were celebrated for their lasting contributions to the ethical backbone of the Philippine advertising industry. Their commitment to self-regulation has helped preserve the integrity of the industry while fostering public trust and ensuring that advertising remains accountable to both consumers and stakeholders.
The ASC’s origins can be traced to the Philippine Board of Advertising, later known as the Advertising Board of the Philippines, before evolving into the present-day Ad Standards Council. Throughout this history, key committees — notably the Advertising Content Review Committee (ACRC) and the Trade Practice and Code of Conduct Committee (TPCC) — have guided the industry through legal, ethical, and moral advancement.
“Our industry today — vibrant, forward-thinking, and deeply relevant — stands on the foundation built by the pioneers and nurturers who came before us,” said Robbie Aligada, ASC Executive Director. “Their devotion to self-regulation has empowered us to continue this responsibility: to protect the consumer, uphold fairness among brands, and ensure the industry remains a force for good.”

Central to the event was a celebration of the legacy and vision behind the ACRC and TPCC, whose efforts in drafting and enforcing the Code of Ethics have become a benchmark not just nationally but regionally.
A symbolic highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Alon Medallion — an emblem of the industry’s resilience and evolution. Designed by Dante Dizon of 13 Lucky Monkey, the medallion reflects the dynamic yet disciplined nature of Philippine advertising, united by the principle of self-regulation.
As the ASC continues its multi-year commemoration, it calls on all members of the advertising community to reflect on the journey so far and renew their commitment to ethical practice. The industry’s future, built on decades of shared responsibility, remains in capable hands.
Jun Nicdao, Chair of the 50th Anniversary celebration, aptly summed up the evening’s message: “Generations of Filipino creatives, advertisers, marketers, and communicators thrive today because of these honorees. We gather not just to recognize their contributions, but to pass their legacy on. This is how we pay it forward — by celebrating their work and ensuring it inspires the next generation.”
