ZAMBOANGA CITY – The 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade (1102Bde), based in Sulu province, has significantly enhanced its operational capabilities in coastal areas with the activation of two new motorboats.
Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino delos Santos, commander of the 1102Bde, said in a statement that the operational test and evaluation of the two motorboats on Monday were a success.
One of the motorboats is a newly constructed gray vessel, while the other is a white, second-hand acquisition, Delos Santos said. The newly built motorboat was christened as Ganarul Uno, and the acquired one was named Ganarul Dos.
“This significant milestone further strengthens the 1102nd Brigade’s ability to effectively respond to security challenges across the complex archipelagic domain of Sulu,” delos Santos added.
The 1102Bde is responsible for overseeing seven municipalities within Sulu: five situated on the mainland and two on outlying islands. In total, the province comprises 19 municipalities. The brigade’s area of responsibility includes Panamao, Kalingalan Caluang, Panglima Estino, Luuk, Pata, Omar, and Banguingui.
During the operational test of the motorboats, Delos Santos reported that they travelled from the port of Luuk to Sani-Sani Beach on Capual Island in Omar. After this, they proceeded to the Tandang Mairan Rock Formation, also located on Capual Island, allowing for a practical assessment of the boats’ performance under varying coastal conditions.
“The operational test not only validated the readiness and seaworthiness of the motorboats but also fostered stronger camaraderie and teamwork among the brigade personnel,” delos Santos said. (PNA)
